Information about Carctol
The background to the introduction of Carctol to the UK
Carctol is a herbal medicine that has been created in India by Dr Nandlal Tiwari who is an Ayurvedic doctor. During 20 years’ work with Carctol between 1980 and 2000, Dr Tiwari helped thousands of people to stabilise their health, and a significant number had truly remarkable recoveries.
The attention of Dr Rosy Daniel was drawn to his success by political activist Yashu Amlani, MBE, in Bristol in 1998. At that time Dr Daniel was Medical Director at the world famous Bristol Cancer Help Centre, and it was part of her job to look at any new natural options for the treatment of cancer. She went to Rajasthan to visit Dr Tiwari in 1999 who presented to her a group of people who had been ‘written off’ by the medical profession many years earlier, when conventional medical treatment had failed. Many of these people had had very serious cancers, but were now completely well and back to normal life, with necessary medical notes and histology reports to prove that they had indeed made a full recovery from cancer.
Who can have Carctol treatment?
Carctol can be prescribed for anybody who has a diagnosis of cancer. The only contra-indication to its use is when there are severe digestive problems and/or intestinal obstruction. This means when the intestine is blocked either by a growth, adhesions, or very severe constipation.
What is the cost of Carctol treatment?
Carctol treatment will involve first a consultation with a prescribing doctor (circa £120 for a one hour introductory consultation) and thereafter £90 per month for the herbs and a further £10 a month for the digestive enzymes that you will need to take alongside the Carctol.
What else will taking Carctol involve?
When taking Carctol you will be asked to adopt a non-acidic, vegetarian diet. This will mean omitting all acidic drinks, foods and smoking from your lifestyle. You will also be advised to drink large amounts of filtered or cooled boiled water.
How does Carctol work?
The Indian pioneer of Carctol, Dr Tiwari, believes that Carctol works by alkalinisation of the body with simultaneous detoxification body through enhanced liver, kidney and digestive function.
What success has there been with Carctol in Britain?
Dr Daniel and her colleagues are greatly encouraged as they too have now seen many cases of remarkable recovery in people with serious cancer who have either had no conventional treatment at all or when conventional treatment has failed. Several senior members of the medical cancer world in the UK have now offered to make an independent review of these cases and if they believe that there is genuine evidence of activity, they will recommend randomised controlled clinical (RCT) trials to make a formal assessment of the effects and benefits of Carctol. Until such time as we have formal RCT trail findings there is no scientific proof of the benefits of Carctol, all reports of its benefits being anecdotal.
In India, Dr Tiwari has not performed RCT trials, but has performed an analysis of 1900 cases over the first 20 years of his practice. This group of patients were asked to assess the level of benefit they believed themselves to have received from Carctol both subjectively (in terms of how they felt whilst on the herbs) and objectively (in terms of what scans and histological tests showed). Around 25% believed they had had 75-100% benefit; around 55% believed themselves to have had 25-75% benefit; and around 20% believed themselves to have had no benefit. These are impressive results considering how ill the people are who come to Dr Tiwari and who embark upon Carctol treatment.
What is the legal status of Carctol?
Dr Daniel was sufficiently impressed by these results to begin the process of making it possible for people in England to receive Carctol treatment. On talking to herbal distributors in England, she discovered that EU legislation prohibited the sale of herbal medicines where any of the ingredients were classed as medicines in the UK, particularly where these were remedies being imported from abroad. As 3 of the 8 herbs within the Carctol mixture were classed as medicinal, it became clear that Carctol could only be offered by prescription in the UK, making it necessary for people who are seeking Carctol treatment in Britain to do so through a doctor who is prepared to prescribe it. This official classification as a medicine also means that Carctol has the status of an unlicensed medicine, as it has not been through the extremely expensive licensing process which conventional drugs go through to prove its mechanism of action and to demonstrate its safety. This process costs millions of pounds as medicines go through a minimum of three phases of trials before being licensed for use by the general public.
However, fortunately, in the UK a doctor can still prescribe an unlicensed medicine for a patient if he or she believes it will be of benefit and if they believe that the medicine is safe for use. UK doctors listed below are prepared to prescribe Carctol as an unlicensed medicine because it had been used for years in India without any reports of toxic side effects and because they have witnessed the benefits in those with cancer. Also laboratory testing of Carctol in the UK revealed that no toxic level of the medicine could be found, and neither was it contaminated with bacteria, fungi, or heavy metals or chemicals. This classification and lack of clinical trials does, however, mean that the patient takes Carctol at their own risk, and this must be understood by all who embark on Carctol treatment.
Where can I get Carctol?
Carctol is now imported to Britain by Cankut Herbs Ltd, who are based in Bristol and is prescribed by the doctors below. Further doctors prescribing Carctol in the UK can be seen on the website www.carctolhome.com. Cankut Herbs will distribute Carctol to you on presentation of the prescription which you will receive during your consultation, along with a leaflet from Cankut herbs.
